The director of the delightful Orphan may have forsaken horror for Liam Neeson actioners, but hes still producing in the genre, most recently with found footage effort Hooked Up. Indie label Uncorkd has picked up the movie, filmed entirely on an iPhone and directed by Pablo Larcuen, for an April release.
In Hooked Up, Tonio and Peter, two young Americans, travel to Barcelona to party and, above all, to score with women. During their very first night out partying, they meet some girls that they go home with. There, things will take an unexpected turn. With no possibility of escape, they must face their worst nightmares.
If anything, the rising concept of shooting on a iPhone (see: Sean Bakers Sundance hit Tangerine) seems appropriate here, believable if not as a full-length than at least how two vacation bros would capture the more memorable moments of their getaway. Of course, Hooked Up is the latest in a long line of films about American tourists jetsetting to terror, but looks like it makes a nasty go of it.
Uncorkd releases Hooked Up April 7th on VOD with a DVD on June 9th to follow.
