Found footage is really rearing its head at the moment. It’s also a bit more interesting than usual. Following the overdue release of the composed, eerie Final Prayer was Ukraine-set cannibal horror Ghoul, which while fairly standard was surrounded by a haunting context. Then, there’s this weekend’s distinctive, fun Nighlight and of course the upcoming all-Skype Blumhouse horror, Unfriended. Midst all this is Hooked Up, produced by Orphan‘s Jaume Collet-Serra and observing a couple of bros’ Euro vacation gone wrong through the lens of an iPhone. Will the unconventional camera add verisimilitude to the terror?
Below, find an exclusive clip from Hooked Up, which sees “Tonio and Peter, two young Americans, travel to Barcelona to party and, above all, to score with women. During their very first night out, they meet some girls that they go home with. There, things will take an unexpected turn. With no possibility of escape, they must face their worse nightmares.”
From director Pablo Larcuen, Hooked Up is on VOD from Uncork’d April 7th. A DVD release follows June 9th.
