Here is the Vikings Valhalla Season 3 ending explained featuring spoilers.
What happens to all characters in the Vikings: Valhalla finale
Most of the characters that appear in Vikings: Valhalla are based on historical figures or legendary or semi-legendary individuals from Viking Sagas. The original Vikings series gave different endings to various characters from how things turned out for them in history or legends. Accordingly, the viewers are wondering whether the same thing happens to Leif, Harald, Freydis, and the others in Valhalla.
Leif Erikson and Freydis Eiriksdottir
In the series finale, the siblings finally reunite in Kattegat, a fictional city that served as the setting for multiple plot threads in Vikings: Valhalla and its predecessor. Freydis seeks vengeance against Magnus Olafsson for poisoning Jomsborg, the community she built along with other people of her faith. However, Magnus becomes the King of Norway and imprisons her.
This is when Leif and Harald show up, prompting the Jarls of Norway to make Harald and Magnus co-rulers. When Magnus decides to burn Freydis alive, Leif and Harald free her after tricking the people of Kattegat into believing that the old gods are angry at them. As the series ends, Leif and Freydis say their goodbyes to Harald and set sail. At some point, they will presumably travel to Leif’s “golden land,” the Americas.
Harald Sigurdsson / Harald Hardrada
Harald has undergone drastic changes over the course of three seasons, and he admits this multiple times in the finale. While saying goodbye to Freydis, he asks about his son, whom Freydis has named after him. Harald promises that he will someday visit her and their son, prompting Freydis to ask him not to wait too long. At the end of the show, Harald removes Magnus as his co-ruler and imprisons him. He quickly forces the dissenting part of the nobility to accept him as the sole ruler of Norway, King Harald Hardrada.
King Canute
Canute passes away in the series finale, but not before announcing Emma as his successor. He ensures that Emma will have Earl Godwin’s support by pointing out to the man that they are now part of the same family. If Godwin wants his ambitions to materialize, he needs to help Emma.
Earl Godwin
The series ends for Godwin in almost the same manner it had begun. He remains an important advisor to the rulers of England and continues to orchestrate things with the singular goal of having one of his descendants sit on the throne. History tells us that he even succeeded. His daughter was the wife of Edward the Confessor, King of England, and his son, Harold II, also briefly became the King of England.
Queen Emma
When Emma discovers that Godwin has called her stepson, Harold Harefoot, to England and not her son, Edward, she decides to seduce the young man. She seems to have genuinely loved Canute. But after his death, she does what she needs to do to hold on to her political power and take Godwin on in his own game.
