Jeffrey Jones‘ character, Charles Deetz, seems to have met his fate in Tim Burton’s much-anticipated Beetlejuice saga. As soon as the trailer for Beetlejuice 2 dropped, numerous eagle-eyed fans took notice of a major detail that created doubts about Jones’ appearance in the movie.
Here’s why fans believe he will not be a part of Beetlejuice 2.
Why isn’t Jeffrey Jones in Beetlejuice 2?
Jeffrey Jones’ character Charles Deetz might be dead in Beetlejuice 2.
Warner Bros. recently released the trailer for the Beetlejuice 2. In the trailer’s first shot, fans noticed characters from the 1988 classic attending a funeral. It features Catherine O’Hara, who reprises her role as Delia Deetz, Jones’ character’s second wife; Winona Ryder, who plays Charles’ daughter Lydia Deetz from his late first wife, along with the new addition Jenna Ortega, who portrays the character of Astrid Deetz, Lydia’s daughter.
However, what caught fans’ attention was Jeffrey Jones’ character, Charles, whose photo was displayed on the headstone. Later in the scene, Jenna’s character, Astrid, tells Lydia, “I can’t believe grandpa is dead,” confirming fans’ doubts about Charles’ death in the movie.
The debate about Jeffrey Jones’ character returning for the sequel has been in motion for ages. His stardom fell in 2002 after registering as a sex offender for allegedly soliciting a 14-year-old boy to obtain sexually explicit photos, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Jones received five years of probation after pleading no contest to the charges in 2003. Moreover, the case heavily impacted the actor’s daily life and career. Jones faced arrest again in 2004 and 2010 for failing to update his status as a sex offender.
Beetlejuice 2 follows the Deetz family moving back into the house Charles acquired from the Maitlands after his untimely death. Things take a turn when Astrid’s curiosity and rebellious nature bring Beetlejuice back into the chaos.
