The Dune 2 box office numbers are in and fans are wondering how the film has performed. Is Part Two a success or a flop? Here’s everything you need to know.
How much money did Dune 2 make at the box office?
Dune: Part Two has reportedly collected $81.5 million at the domestic box office in its first three days.
Besides the domestic opening, it also added another $97 million through the international markets, bringing its worldwide total to $178.5 million, Variety reported. These numbers have overperformed the original estimates, as Warner Bros. anticipated the film to open somewhere between $60-$80 million domestically and $170 million worldwide.
Furthermore, Dune 2’s opening is almost double of what the first film made domestically, and its total box office run is also expected to be way more than Dune (2021)’s $433 million worldwide total. But will it be a success story?
Is Dune 2 a flop or a success?
Dune: Part Two is on track to be a major success for Warner Bros. Discovery, and the first blockbuster of 2024.
The film has already been raved by the critics, has a record-breaking IMDb score, and received an ‘A’ on CinemaScore. To back that, it has also proven to be moving towards a commercial success.
While its real test lies in the second weekend’s numbers and the overall performance of March where it competes with Kung Fu Panda 4, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Godzilla x Kong, it’s still believed to be on track to turn in a profit.
With a $190 million production budget, it needs to gross past $600 million to be profitable theatrically. Considering its worldwide opening, it is on track to do that and has every possibility to be a success for Warner Bros. Discovery after accounting for the number of digital rentals. But it’ll be interesting to see whether it has strong legs and manages to hold its own against the upcoming competition throughout and beyond March.
