Going through the long Presidents’ Day weekend, the Bob Marley: One Love box office numbers have started to come in. How did the film perform and is it a flop or a success? Here’s all you need to know.
How much money did Bob Marley: One Love make at the box office?
Bob Marley: One Love made $27.7 million on its 3-day opening weekend and brought in $51 million during the 6-day domestic Presidents’ Day weekend.
Opening on Valentine’s Day, Bob Marley: One Love’s opening made the film $80 million worldwide with $29 million coming from international markets. It gained the #1 spot over Marvel franchise movie Madame Web, which only brought in $51 million worldwide during the same period, the figure Bob Marley: One Love made domestically alone.
The biopic was initially estimated to open between $35 million and $69 million domestically. So far, those predictions have proven to be right as the film is off to a strong start. But whether it goes on to be a box office hit remains to be seen.
Is Bob Marley: One Love a flop or a success?
Considering the budget and CinemaScore, Bob Marley: One Love is looking to be a success story for Paramount Pictures.
It was produced on a reported budget of $70 million. Since a sizable sum was presumably spent on its marketing, with the film getting an expensive push at the Super Bowl, the film possibly needs to make between $200-250 million to make all its money back.
Doing that would be possible as it is expected to recieve a bump from good word of mouth due to its ‘A’ on CinemaScore. Furthermore, it doesn’t face huge competition for the next two weeks until Dune Part II arrives. So, chances are that it’ll prove to have a strong hold over its second-weekend numbers and could even have long legs until mid-March, allowing it to succeed.
