The trailer for 2024’s Twisters has finally dropped and fans are wondering whether this upcoming disaster film is a remake, prequel, sequel, or reboot of 1996’s Twister. Here is all you need to know.
Is Twisters (2024) a remake, prequel, or sequel of Twister?
Twisters is a standalone sequel to 1996’s Twister.
Lead actor Glen Powell in an interview with Vogue said that Twisters is not a reboot but an original story. Powell also revealed that none of the original cast members from the 1996 film, such as Helen Hunt and Cary Elwes, will be returning for this film.
However, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Daisy Edgar-Jones, the other lead actor in the film, promised nods and callbacks to the original Twister film, which fans of the original movie would seemingly appreciate.
Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones will feature in Twisters (2024) as Tyler Owens and Kate Cooper, respectively. Further, they will be joined by an ensemble cast that includes Anthony Ramos, Maura Tierney, Daryl McCormack, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, and David Corenswet.
The story of Twisters, as per Universal Pictures, will revolve around Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser, who after a haunting encounter with a tornado in her college years now studies storm patterns from the safety of her electronic screens in New York City.
However, Kate is eventually lured back into the open field by her friend Javi to study them and test a new groundbreaking tracking system. This is where she crosses paths with reckless but charming social media superstar Tyler Owens, who posts about his storm-chasing adventures with his crew online. However, Kate, Tyler, Javi, and the rest of the crew find themselves out of their depth when they bear witness to terrifying phenomena that were never seen before.
