Netflix has officially released the trailer for Scoop, an upcoming movie that will delve into the inside story of the infamous interview with Prince Andrew on Newsnight. Set to premiere on April 5, the film stars Gillian Anderson (Sex Education) and Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat) as Emily Maitlis and the Duke of York, respectively.
Based on the memoir of former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, the upcoming feature will center on Emily Maitlis’s interview with a member of the British royal family. Though the trailer did not reveal anything about what audiences should expect from Scoop, its final moments highlight both Anderson’s Emily and Sewell’s Prince Andrew as they sit down for a conversation, with the former uttering, “Your royal highness.”
“To get an interview this big, you have to be bold.”
Scoop is poised to give viewers an inside look at the infamous BBC interview, which Netflix (via Tudum) described as “the scoop of the decade.” Peter Moffat and Geoff Bussetil adapted the memoir, with BAFTA and Emmy-winning director Philip Martin at the helm.
The official synopsis for Scoop reads: “Inspired by real events, Scoop is the inside account of the tenacious journalism that landed an earth-shattering interview – Prince Andrew’s infamous BBC Newsnight appearance. From the tension of producer Sam McAlister’s high-stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace all the way to Emily Maitlis’ jaw-dropping, forensic showdown with the Prince, Scoop takes us inside the story with the women who would stop at nothing to get it.”

Who else is involved in Scoop?
Apart from Anderson and Sewell, the upcoming film will also star Billie Piper (Penny Dreadful) as Sam McAlister, Romola Garai (The Hour) as editor Esme Wren, and Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard) as Prince Andrew’s former private secretary Amanda Thirsk.
Rounding out the cast are Charity Wakefield as Prince Andrew’s daughter Princess Beatrice, Lia Williams as former BBC director of news Fran Unsworth, and Sex Education’s Connor Swindells as photographer Jae Donnelly.
The film is produced by Hilary Salmon and Radford Neville for The Lighthouse Film & TV.
Scoop premieres on Netflix on April 5.
