After watching True Detective Season 4, viewers have been left wanting to find out where the latest season was shot and where it is set. Here’s all you need to know about Night Country’s filming locations and setting.
Where was True Detective Season 4 filmed?
Counter to the season’s setting, True Detective Season 4 was shot in Iceland and not Alaska. While the production majorly took place in Reykjavík, Iceland, it also happened in other smaller towns named Akureyri and Dalvík.
The barren landscapes and dark winter shots posing as an Alaskan setting were taken in Icelandic locations. Most of the series was filmed around the capital city, Reykjavík, which allowed the people behind the camera to capture the blue-tinged darkness in stretches of tundra.
The chilling horrors of the plot that take place in Alaska were also created using two other northern Icelandic towns. One of those was Dalvík, which is a fishing location and the other is Akureyri, a city situated at the base of a fjord. While the show took advantage of Icelandic towns, the actors and filmmakers involved had to endure below-zero temperatures to create something special.
Where is True Detective Season 4 set?
True Detective Season 4 is set in the fictional town of Ennis situated in Alaska.
This is quite the contrary to the previous 3 seasons of the anthology series. The first season featuring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey was set in Louisiana, while season 2 showcased a Los Angeles-based narrative. Season 3 starring Mahershala Ali took us to the Ozarks.
Now, the creatives were able to deliver an authentic Alaskan feel by adding a few touches to the shots of Icelandic locations. But instead of using a real city, Jodie Foster’s Detective Liz Danvers and Kali Reis’ Detective Evangeline Navarro look for their murder suspects in the fictional Alaskan town of Ennis.
