Viewers of Lupin season 3 may want the ending explained to confirm what happened to Assane, the Black Pearl, and if the finale sets up season 4.
What happened to Assane at the end of Lupin Season 3? Does he die?
Towards the end of Lupin Season 3, Assane Diop survives and ends up in prison, getting arrested voluntarily.
The climax of Lupin Part 3 involved Assane beating Keller at his own game by turning those he loves against him. Keller was Assane’s old boxing coach who got arrested and put in jail for 25 years. He blamed Assane for his fate and kidnapped his mother, Mariama, to get back at him.
However, Assane made a deal with Keller’s girlfriend, Manon, and got him arrested. That way, Assane could save Claire and his son, Raoul, who united with Mariama for the first time. Following that, Assane turned himself in.
When Benjamin was arrested, Assane told Detective Guedira that he’d voluntarily get arrested if Benjamin was freed. That’s exactly what happened as Guedira got to arrest Assane and Benjamin was set free. He met Claire, Raoul, and Mariama at the train station and handed them Assane’s letter, where the latter explained his actions.
Who got the Black Pearl?
Bruno got the Black Pearl and got paid handsomely for it.
Assane and Bruno were able to set up a clever switcheroo. The former told Guedira that he didn’t know where the Pearl was. However, it was actually hidden in an orange rose, which Assane gifted to a random woman.
After that, Bruno took the flower back from the girl using a cute story and ended up with the Black Pearl. He sold it and paid half the money from it to Manon. The rest was used to reopen Keller’s boxing gym.
How Part 3 sets up Lupin Season 4
Part 3 ended with a cliffhanger, suggesting that Mariama wasn’t who we thought she was. Now, all eyes are set on Lupin season 4 where Assane will go up against Pellegrini yet again and uncover the truth about Mariama.
Just as Assane was ready to hang it all up and take responsibility for his actions in prison, he got an envelope from his neighboring inmate, who turned out to be none other than the series villain, Hubert Pellegrini.
The envelope contained a photo of young Assane holding his first Arsène Lupin novel, “The Cagliostro’s Revenge.” Along with that, he also found a threatening message which read:
“The riddle was within you. Within the secret of your soul. In order to trap you and to build up your trust, I welcomed the love you pretended to have for me. Perhaps you believed I felt it myself. And you ended up truly loving me. And thus, you lost any clarity of mind.”
