The ongoing costume C-drama The Double, starring Wu Jinyan and Wang Xingyue, released episode 31 on June 18, 2024. As seen in the previous episode, Fang Fei (Wu Jinyan) confronted Shen Yurong for making her life hard. However, the latest episode focuses on the protagonist collaborating with her ex-husband at the delegation ceremony.
Situ and Xiao Heng’s (Wang Xingyue) subordinates visit Ye Shijie’s residence to treat magistrate Xue. However, they are attacked by unknown assassins who desperately attempt to murder Situ. Shijie somehow manages to flee and informs Xiao Heng, who hurries to the former’s residence to catch the perpetrator. He arrives at the location of the crime and corners the assassin. To Xiao Heng’s surprise, the assassin turns out to be Chu Lan, but he manages to get away before he can get his hands on him.
As soon as Fang Fei hears about the incident from Shijie, she starts to worry about her father. She is relieved that Xiao Heng has moved Situ and Magistrate Xue to his own house for safety, and Fang Fei visits Xiao Heng’s residence to check on them. Situ is severely injured but is expected to recover in a few days after getting some rest. Xiao Heng wants to avoid Fang Fei getting any funny ideas about him and Situ, so he clarifies to her that Situ is important as she is King Zhao’s sister, Yan’s future ally.
Xiao Heng appoints his troops of men to look for Chu Lan at every corner of the city. With Princess Wanning still under house arrest, he can only hide inside the Li residence. But at the same time, Duke Su knows that Li Zhongnan won’t be hiding Chu Lan in his house. Thus, he instructs his subordinates to continue patrolling. Fang Fei’s close companions, Jiang Jingrui and Liu Xu, attempt to convince Shen Yurong to speak with her. They tell him she fell ill because no one wants to perform with her.

On the other hand, rumors have started to circulate that Fang Fei deliberately wants to get close to Yurong as she resembles his dead wife. Such rumors are vicious to an unmarried woman’s reputation.
Shen Yurong finally visits Fang Fei to check up on her health. He asks her not to get agitated by baseless rumors and promises to investigate who started them. Moreover, he gets infuriated when Fang Fei mentions his hatred towards his late wife, which is stopping him from performing with her. Yurong reveals he is still in love with his late wife, Fang Fei. To prove her wrong, he agrees to perform with her.
As the day of the ceremony approaches, Yurong and Fang Fei continue to rehearse together for their upcoming performance. However, not everyone is happy with their collaboration. Yurong’s mother advises him to avoid Fang Fei or Princess Wanning will get jealous. When Wanning hears the news, she sends assassins to harm Yurong and Fang Fei. The latter almost falls prey to a fatal injury, but Yurong shields her and takes the blow instead.
Xiao Heng brings the Longwu army to search the capital security office. The army finds Chu Lan hiding inside the office. A fight breaks out, and Chu Lan again manages to flee. On the day of the delegation, Duke Su reunites Situ with King Zhao. Fang Fei and Yurong’s poetry and music collaboration amazes the guests at the envoy. However, Duke Su gets jealous of their closeness.
