The ongoing costume C-drama The Double, starring Wu Jinyan and Wang Xingyue, released episode 30 on June 18, 2024. As seen in episode 29, Fang Fei (Wu Jinyan) confessed to Ji Shuran about not being the real Jian Li. However, episode 30 focuses on Fang Fei’s confrontation with Shen Yurong.
Fang Fei receives an answer to his letter to Shen Yurong. Previously, she wrote to him, urging him to let her join the delegation envoy. She becomes upset when she discovers that Shen Yurong appointed her to the music bureau despite being a skilled Qin player. Fang Fei finds it amusing that her ex-husband is afraid of letting her get close to him and is confident that he will slip up sooner or later.
At the music bureau, the protagonist is restrained by Ms. Xiao, who accuses her of not being diligent enough. Fang Fei does not want her status as the daughter of an official to get in the way of how Xiao handles her project. Hence, she decides to practice on her own so that she does not hold back her fellow musicians.
Meanwhile, Xiao Heng (Wang Xingyue) finally finds Situ Jiuyue, the poison expert. Duke Su informs her about the impending danger as King Cheng opposes the delegation between the emperor and King Zhao. He asks her to stay at his residence for safety.
Xiao Heng then asks for her help to save two people, and it takes Situ only a short time to figure out that Jiang Li is the person Xiao Heng cares about. She accuses him of toying with her feelings, but Xiao Heng clarifies that he doesn’t intend to indulge in romance. Deeply hurt by his words, Situ refuses to help him and leaves.
On the other hand, Shen Yurong receives information from Ms. Xiao that Fang Fei has been sick and has missed several practice sessions. He uses this opportunity to persuade the emperor to replace her as Yan’s representative.
The Double ep 30 focuses on Wu Jinyan confronting her ex-husband
Shen Yurong attempts to convince the emperor that she might degrade the nation’s name if she does not perform well, which leads to his argument with Ye Shijie, who calls him out for being unfair. The latter suggests that the emperor let Fang Fei collaborate with the Hanlin scholars to create a new performance style that will highlight her talent and cover her flaws. The emperor becomes impressed and instructs Shen Yurong to team up with Fang Fei.
In the meantime, Fang Fei visits Shen Yurong to request that he choose a partner for her. He chooses Zhao Qi, but she convinces him to back out. However, Yurong insists that Zhao Qi and Fang Fei put aside their enmity and think about the nation.
When none of her plans seem to work out, Fang Fei deliberately gets into a fight with Zhao Qi. Yurong accuses her of using Shijie to get through to the emperor. Fang Fei reminds him that he was the one who tried to get rid of her first. She knows how he has been targeting her simply because she resembles his dead wife. Yurong promises to find another collaborator for her, but he backs out eventually.
The next day, while visiting the academy for practice, Fang Fei’s carriage breaks down, and she gets soaked in rain. She tells Yurong that she knows no one wants to team up with her. However, she wants to make a name for herself. Yurong softens up and lends her his clothes to warm her up. Fang Fei is yet again reminded of her sweet and caring husband.
As she frantically rushes out of the academy, Xiao Heng rescues her. After taking her back to his residence, he offers her a hearty meal and comforts her. Xiao Heng then advises her to avoid getting caught up in her plans as he can not afford to lose her.
