Demon Slayer S2E4 Review

Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 4 – Tonight Review

A relatively slow episode paves the way for a bombastic ending that’s just the start of things to come. As the teaser of the previous episode showed, Zenitsu has been abducted by the demon Daki, right out from under the nose of the Sound Hashira.

The tension is quickly building as the party tries to figure out what happened to Zenitsu, even while Inosuke is absolutely sure that there’s a demon in the house he’s investigating. The bulk of this episode focuses on Tanjiro’s personality, in particular showing his compassion through his interactions with Oiran of Tokito House.

It’s not often that the show puts a big emphasis on human characters, especially humans that aren’t Demon Slayer, so it’s interesting to see the interactions play out. Past that, there’s an absolutely stand-out scene involving muscular mice that’s one of the most hilarious gags of the entire show. I couldn’t wait to see the scene animated, and boy did it not disappoint.

Otherwise, however, episode four doesn’t feel like it really pushes the story along until the tail-end, which finally sees Tanjiro face down the demon of the Entertainment District. There’s a short, but impressive, aerial battle that takes place, which is hopefully an indication of how the action might feel different for this second season.

A couple of standout moments do a lot for this episode, but as a whole, it very much feels like the setup for what’s coming next which isn’t bad, just necessary. Anyone that’s been missing the action so far, however, should have a lot to look forward to with episode five.

SCORE: 7/10

As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 7 equates to “Great.” A successful piece of entertainment that is worth checking out, but it may not appeal to everyone.
