Most of the Shonen anime series are praised because of their male characters. They are extremely popular, and action-based series rarely boast female characters. However, a handful of series portray powerful female anime characters who are on par with the male characters, if not stronger.
There are plenty of well-written and powerful female characters who are stronger than even some of the well-known male characters in the community. Aside from being superior in physical abilities, many characters possess powers that can only be defined as a “hack.” With that being said, here are some of the strongest female anime characters:
Tsunade Senju
One of the Legendary Sannin and the fifth Hokage of Konohagakure, Tsunade is a significant character in Naruto Shippuden. Similar to Jiraiya mentoring Naruto, she mentored Sakura. She left the position of the Hokage after the Fourth Great Shinobi War.
Tsunade is undeniably one of the strongest Kunoichi in the series. She was a good fighter and excelled at Medical Ninjutsu. Even Madara Uchiha acknowledged her strength when she defeated one of his wood clones, Susanoo, on her own.
Nezuko Kamado
Despite not being a member of the Twelve Kizuki, Nezuko is an extremely powerful demon. A significant amount of Muzan’s blood surges through her veins, which grants her immense growth abilities. She can magnify her physical prowess and overwhelm her opponents. Nezuko even developed her Blood Demon Art.
She is efficient in fighting, as seen during her battle against the Temple Demon, Swamp Demon, and Susamaru. She became powerful enough to fight on par with the Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki, like Daki.
Mikasa Ackerman
One of the most popular characters from Attack on Titan is Mikasa Ackerman, and probably among the strongest female anime characters. Being a Shonen series, Mikasa is an intricately written character. She is strong enough to make the most capable men of their squadron sweat. Obviously, she carries the Ackerman blood, but that doesn’t diminish her skills.
Mikasa Ackermann has always been resilient and protective towards Eren from a young age. She is one of the best Scout members, after Levi Ackerman, and has no trouble slicing through hordes of titans by herself.
Makima
Makima is the Control Devil, which easily makes her one of the strongest characters in the series. While the anime has yet to cover the full extent of her abilities, few characters in Chainsaw Man can fight against her damage-transferring, brainwashing, and general physical abilities.
Makima is incredibly powerful and popular among the community. Even though Chainsaw Man’s power scaling doesn’t span wide, she is still a formidable opponent and can be defeated under specific conditions. Considering her entire arsenal of abilities is yet to be revealed in the series, she is among some of the strongest female anime characters in new-gen shonen.
Erza Scarlet
This S-Class Mage in Fairy Tail can give Natsu and Gray a run for their money. However, Erza Scarlet acts as a sister figure to them, keeping both of them in check. She is in the top percentage of S-Class Mages, even becoming the Master of the Fairy Tail Guild.
She can manipulate Sword Magic, allowing her to perform multiple multi-piercing, blade-based attacks. As she has access to a good deal of equipment, Erza also has over one hundred types of armor.
Among her arsenal, the strongest armor is the Armadura Fairy. It can easily overwhelm a sacred lance and also switch Erza’s weapons through energy. She is easily among some of the strongest female anime characters out there.
