How a Former WWE Star Joined AEW with Jon Moxley’s Influence

Former WWE Champion Jon Moxley has been the cornerstone of AEW since its inception in 2019 when he debuted at Double or Nothing. Recently, former WWE star Christian Cage, formerly known as Christian, revealed how his conversation with Jon Moxley changed his mind about joining AEW.

Christian Cage made a surprise return to wrestling at the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble. Following this one-off appearance, he signed with AEW. In his first year with the promotion, he even defeated Kenny Omega to capture the IMPACT World Championship. Over time, he has become a top heel in AEW, showcasing his talent and receiving a second chance at a successful wrestling career.

However, before arriving at AEW, Christian Cage was skeptical about joining the promotion. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Cage revealed that he had conversations with former WWE champion Jon Moxley, who convinced him to talk to Tony Khan. He stated, “A friend of mine, Jon Moxley, called me and we were talking and when he found out that I wasn’t signed he was blown away by that. And he said you should have a conversation with Tony Khan. I was like, I don’t know. And he said, Well, you’re actually an idiot if you don’t, you hold all the cards here. He said you have the ability to pick where you refinish your career.”

Christian Cage provides update on his AEW contract status

Since arriving at AEW, Christian Cage’s work has garnered praise from both fans and critics alike. Some even argue that it’s the best of his entire career. Cage, a former TNT Champion, recently engaged in a compelling feud with his best friend, Adam Copeland, for the title.

Speaking in the same interview with Chris Van Vliet, Christian Cage provided an update on his contract status with AEW. He stated, “I always said I’m going to do it until it wasn’t fun. That was my barometer on it. How could I not be having fun right now? It’s still fun. I have no timeline. I signed a contract, I think I have three years left on this contract. We’ll get to the end of that and we’ll see what happens. I feel like I have a lot of knowledge. I don’t know everything, but I know a lot. I feel I think the business differently, I lay out matches and see matches differently than other people do. I’d like to, when the time is right, to give back to the business for what it’s done for me.”

With three more years left on his contract with AEW, fans of the promotion have plenty of time to enjoy watching him.
