Recently, former WWE Champion AJ Styles paid homage to WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry’s infamous 2013 segment. In the segment, Henry, who was in the ring with John Cena, became emotional and teased retirement.
Cena, who was also present at ringside, raised Henry’s hand for the crowd. As he moved closer to hug Henry, the latter surprised everyone by executing a World’s Strongest Slam, dropping the then-WWE Champion John Cena.
On the latest edition of WWE SmackDown, AJ Styles and Cody Rhodes recreated a memorable segment reminiscent of Mark Henry’s iconic moment. Styles, in a surprising turn, teased retirement before launching a brutal attack on Rhodes.
This escalated into Styles delivering a devastating Styles Clash, first off the steel steps and then onto the floor. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows held the WWE officials at back Styles’ friends.
Speaking on the Busted Open Radio, Mark Herny shared his thoughts about AJ Styles’ recent performance. He mentioned that AJ Styles made a significant impact by wearing a blue jacket and creating a historical moment. Henry noted that both he and AJ Styles were trending after the segment.
He stated, “I know both of those guys. They thought about it and said, ‘Let’s do it like Mark did it.’ They did the same exact posturing. Even to the point, after the clothesline and beatdown, he did the same posturing of standing over him just like I did. When they went outside to the floor, all bets were off; they did a great job. The execution of it, the camera angles that they took was incredible.”
