WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio discusses the similarities between his son, Dominik Mysterio, and his late tag team partner, Eddie Guerrero. In 2005, Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero were involved in one of the most captivating storylines in WWE. The feud also included Rey Mysterio’s son, Dominik Mysterio. This culminated in a memorable match between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero at SummerSlam 2005 for custody of Dominik.
Years later, Rey Mysterio’s son, Dominik, has also embraced the darker side, similar to Eddie Guerrero, and he has even attacked his own father. This conflict culminated in a father-son singles match last year at WrestleMania 39. Recently, Rey Mysterio spoke about how the late WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero might have perceived Dominik’s recent transformation.
In an interview with CBS Sports, Rey Mysterio discussed the similarities he sees between his son Dominik and Eddie Guerrero. He stated, “I truly believe that Eddie is getting a kick out of this and, to a certain degree, Eddie has been in Dominik’s corner from the beginning. It’s very special and sentimental to see my son’s growth and to see every now and then a little Eddie-ish in his character and his development and the way he carries himself. To a large degree, there is a lot of pride when I see him and it reminds me so much of moments I lived with Eddie… Sometimes when I see pictures of them, it’s just scary.”
Rey Mysterio considers mask on the line retirement match with Dominik Mysterio
Rey Mysterio, whose career spans over three decades, recently discussed how he envisions his retirement match. Speaking in the same interview with CBS Sports, Mysterio expressed that he wants to face his son in his retirement match, putting his mask on the line. He stated, “The perfect scenario is that Dom would be the right person. And not necessarily to retire me but put what matters most to me on the line and that’s my mask. It’s something I’d be willing to do.”
It will indeed be interesting to see if this match comes to fruition. Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio faced each other last year and this year at WrestleMania, although in a tag team match. Mysterio is currently 49 years old, so the possibility of him hanging up his boots is quite close.
