WWE Superstar AJ Styles has set his sights on former WWE NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio. In 2022, Dominik Mysterio made a shocking move by turning heel at the WWE Clash at the Castle. Mysterio attacked WWE Hall of Famers Edge and his own father, Rey Mysterio.
Since his heel turn, Dominik Mysterio’s career has skyrocketed, and his chemistry with Rhea Ripley has also received praise from fans. Mysterio’s heel turn has garnered him more heat from the fans, with loud boos accompanying his promos. Former WWE Champion AJ Styles appears to seek a similar reception to Dominik Mysterio when he steps into the ring.
In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, AJ Styles wants to embrace whatever level of villainy is necessary to surpass Dominik Mysterio in receiving boos. He stated, “As bad, ugly, and mean as a heel is supposed to be, I’m going to be that guy. When I step into an arena, I want more boos than Dominik Mysterio. That’s what I’m after. That’s my job, and I want to do it better than anybody.”
AJ Styles’ heel persona gets major ovation at WWE Backlash

Despite Styles portraying a heel character, he received one of the loudest ovations from fans during the match. Styles even acknowledged the fans’ reception on Twitter by sharing a video of fans chanting for him in French.
As Styles strives to overtake Dominik Mysterio in receiving boos, it appears that he may need to employ more heel tactics to generate more heat from the fans. It will be interesting to see if Styles is able to get more boos than Dominik Mysterio in the future.
