AEW President Tony Khan addressed the possibility of stepping into the ring following the brutal assault. The April 24 episode of AEW Dynamite witnessed a shocking conclusion when Tony Khan faced Jack Perry. Perry, making a return after eight months, chose to assault Tony Khan, prompting The Elite to join in and attack Khan as well.
Following last week’s shocking incident, fans witnessed The Elite taking over AEW Dynamite and taking control of the show that Tony Khan usually oversees. The Elite decided to cut Tony Khan’s feed while he was addressing the fans after the attack, and they proceeded to take over the show.
In a recent interview on Cincy 360 with Rick Ucchino and Tony Pike, Tony Khan was questioned about his willingness to step into the ring following the attack. He stated, “AEW is where the best wrestle. We mean that. That’s why I want to make sure the fans get the best matches and the best action. In this case, I’m not the best person to pay those people back.”
He continued, “There are a lot of things I’m good at behind the scenes, but somebody else is going to have to go avenge what those guys did to not only me, but to Kenny Omega. I’m quite sure there are more capable wrestlers than I am who can inflict some of that punishment on the Young Bucks, Jack Perry, and Okada. I want to have great matches in AEW. After what happened to me last time, I don’t think I would be making a smart move.”
Potential showdown: The Elite vs. Team Tony Khan at AEW Double or Nothing
The Elite’s actions have spiraled out of control since their attack on AEW President Tony Khan. The faction seized control of the AEW Dynamite show. The Executive Vice Presidents (EVPs), The Young Bucks, instigated chaos within the roster, even involving themselves in the business of AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland. They announced Christian Cage as Swerve Strickland’s opponent for AEW Double or Nothing.
With the faction’s behavior becoming increasingly uncontrollable, it could lead to action at AEW Double or Nothing, potentially resulting in an Anarchy in the Arena match. The Elite, comprising The Young Bucks, Jack Perry, and Kazuchika Okada, might face off against a team representing Tony Khan. With AEW Double or Nothing just a few weeks away, it will be interesting to see what drama unfolds next in the promotion.
