Former WWE NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov has sent a message to his former rival Gunther following the WWE Draft. Dragunov was drafted to the red brand on the latest edition of WWE RAW. The red brand selected him in the fourth round of the draft.
In a RAW exclusive interview, Ilja Dragunov was asked about his draft to the red brand and his transition to the main roster. He stated, “I have no words. NXT became my home. These people, a lot of these people, became a home away from home for me. But now it’s time for my next chapter, and I have to make a promise. One promise that I already kept here. In every place I come to, I push the place to the next level. That’s what I do. That’s what I did with NXT. This is the same thing I do when I come to Raw, with incomparable passion and intensity. Trust me, no one is prepared, and no one is safe anymore when ‘The Mad Dragon’ arrives.”
Additionally, when asked about his rival Gunther from WWE NXT, Dragunov summed it up with one word. He said, “I think there’s just one word that explains it all. Destiny.”
Ilja Dragunov could soon potentially square off against Gunther
With Ilja Dragunov now transitioning to WWE’s main roster, fans are eager to see if he’ll confront his former NXT rival Gunther. The possibility of their face-off seems likely, and fans might soon get a glimpse of it.
Last week on WWE RAW, Gunther announced his participation in the upcoming King of the Ring tournament. He expressed his intention to win the tournament and become King Gunther. Since Ilja Dragunov has been drafted to the same brand as Gunther, he could kick off his main roster journey by entering the King of the Ring tournament. WWE could also set up a scenario where both stars face each other in the tournament finals.
The finals are scheduled to take place on May 25th at WWE’s next premium live event, King and Queen of the Ring.
