WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes recently addressed Stone Cold Steve Austin’s WWE WrestleMania 40 appearances. Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 40, ending Reigns’ record-breaking title reign of 1316 days.
The main event of WWE WrestleMania 40 night two involved numerous WWE superstars. The match featured The Usos, Solo Sikoa, Seth Rollins, The Undertaker, The Rock, and John Cena. However, there was one more name rumored for an appearance – Stone Cold. WWE had also teased his appearance. It was reported that Stone Cold and WWE couldn’t reach a financial agreement for an appearance at WrestleMania 40. This led to The Undertaker taking his spot.
Cody Rhodes recently discussed Stone Cold’s absence from WWE WrestleMania 40 during an appearance on the Sports Illustrated podcast. Rhodes expressed his admiration for Stone Cold’s immense impact and lasting legacy in professional wrestling. He acknowledged Stone Cold’s role as one of the most profitable and influential wrestlers of his era, particularly during the iconic Attitude Era.
While Stone Cold’s appearance would have been great, the appearances of John Cena and The Undertaker blew the roof off the stadium.
Cody Rhodes officially joins WWE SmackDown roster following WWE WrestleMania 40
Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, where he defeated Seth Rollins. Since his return, Rhodes has been consistently appearing on the red brand, establishing himself as a star of that brand. Although he made a few appearances on SmackDown, following the results of WWE WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes is officially moving to the blue brand. It is further indicated by his profile on the WWE official website, where he is labeled as a SmackDown star.
With Cody Rhodes beginning his new journey, his next opponent will be determined in the upcoming episode of WWE SmackDown. AJ Styles is set to face LA Knight, and the winner of that match will challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Undisputed Championship at WWE’s next Pay-Per-View event, Backlash, in France on May 4.
