Sting is gearing up for the curtain call on his illustrious career at AEW Revolution. However, amidst the anticipation, one significant figure from his past won’t be present to witness the iconic moment.
In a recent revelation, AEW World Tag Team Champion Sting’s old WCW rival, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, disclosed that Sting expressed disappointment with WWE. The company reportedly prohibited Nash from attending Sting’s final match at the Revolution pay-per-view event.
On his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash disclosed that Sting had requested his presence for his ultimate match. However, Nash’s allegiance to WWE prevented him from fulfilling Sting’s wish. He stated, “He asked me to be a part of it, I just said that … you know, with my positioning with WWE I couldn’t -– I couldn’t even be … If I went in the crowd, it would be … you know? I think he wanted me to be there because I was just one of the guys who has been there with him the whole run. Yeah, I think he was disappointed. I mean, I was disappointed. I asked [WWE] –- you know when you ask and there’s that three-second pause? It’s like when you be on the road and you’re like, ‘Hey babe? We’re at Fort Wayne, I’m gonna go to Stewie’s Strip Joint, you got a problem with that?’ Nothing.”
Though WWE may have disappointed Sting and Nash, AEW recently welcomed another familiar face from Sting’s past, Ric Flair, who made his debut a few months ago. Flair is confirmed to be a part of The Icon’s retirement match.
Sting & Darby Allin are set to face The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution
The Icon boasts a legendary career spanning over four decades. In 2020, he inked a deal with AEW, engaging in numerous high-profile matches since. Alongside his tag team partner, Darby Allin, Sting has crafted countless memorable moments within AEW.
During the October 18 edition of Dynamite, The Icon publicly disclosed his retirement plans. He announced that his swan song in AEW would be at Revolution 2024. Set for March 3, 2024, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina, this event holds significance as it mirrors the venue of his debut match in 2021.
Furthermore, a few weeks ago, The Young Bucks confronted Sting and Darby Allin, unequivocally stating that they would be Sting’s final opponents at Revolution. The Young Bucks are slated to challenge Sting and Allin for the tag team championship at Revolution. Moreover, leveraging their power as Executive Vice Presidents, the Young Bucks have relentlessly targeted Sting and Darby Allin, orchestrating numerous assaults on the duo.
