Former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle recently claimed that Brock Lesnar played a major role in blocking his intended victory at the 2022 Royal Rumble.
Riddle, who was released from WWE back in September, seems to have been part of significant plans by WWE officials for 2022. Matt Riddle made his debut in WWE in 2018 and spent two years with the developmental brand NXT before transitioning to the main roster in 2020. In his debut match on the main roster of Smackdown, Riddle achieved a notable victory against AJ Styles.
Experiencing success on the main roster, Riddle secured the United States Championship and the Tag Team Championship alongside Randy Orton. According to him, 2022 was poised to be a year of significant pushes until Brock Lesnar entered the scene.
During a virtual interview with Signed By Superstars, Riddle claimed that plans for him to win the prestigious event took an unexpected turn when Brock Lesnar entered the scene, asserting his dominance over the decision-making process.
“I believe — you know, it’s sports-entertainment — that I was told at one point, yeah, I was gonna win the (Royal) Rumble and everything else, and then what was it? Bobby Lashley beat Brock Lesnar because somebody came in and hit him with the belt or what have you. Then Brock came in, didn’t wanna do business with everybody, said he was winning, and then he won, and then none of the producers… nobody stood up to him, and they let him do it. I didn’t either, I didn’t either. I’m like, f*ck man, I’m just here.” he said.
Lesnar made a significant impact in the Royal Rumble 2022 when he entered as the 30th participant, eliminating several wrestlers, including Matt Riddle. Wrestling fans are well aware of the existing tension between Riddle and Lesnar.
Inside story into the heat between Matt Riddle and Brock Lesnar
The saga between Matt Riddle and Brock Lesnar is a distinctive mix of personal conflict and backstage drama. Back in his NXT days, Riddle openly challenged Lesnar’s dominance, stating that he would be the one to end his career.
This didn’t sit well with ‘The Beast Incarnate.’ The boiling point came at the 2020 Royal Rumble. In a backstage encounter, Brock Lesnar let Matt Riddle know that he had no interest in facing him.
While both wrestlers briefly crossed paths during the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber in 2022, Riddle didn’t secure the one-on-one bout with Lesnar that he desired
