What is Netflix’s Captain Fall about?
Captain Fall is created by Jon Iver Helgaker and Jonas Torgersen, the same duo behind the Netflix-distributed Norwegian comedy series Norsemen. The upcoming animated series centers on a “wet-behind-the-ears, yet good-hearted sea captain” who “unwittingly finds himself at the helm of a smuggling ship for a terrible international cartel who’s using him as a fall guy in case the authorities ever catch up to them.”
Netflix originally ordered the series in July 2020. The streaming giant commissioned a total of 20 episodes, which would release in two parts. “We are thrilled to set out on this new adventure with Netflix,” Helgaker and Torgersen said at the time. “We first pitched Captain Fall as a live action show, but Netflix saw the potential of it being animated. Although a bit scary in the beginning, moving from live action to animation just feels amazingly limitless and creative on a whole new level. And luckily Netflix has surrounded us with a groups of extremely talented people, so everything is set up for us not screwing this one up. But you never know.”
When it debuts in July, Captain Fall will be the latest addition to Netflix’s catalog of adult animated series, which already includes shows like BoJack Horseman, Inside Job, F Is for Family, and Big Mouth.
