Phylicia Rashad (For Colored Girls, Our Son), Brian Stokes Mitchell (tick, tick…BOOM!), Victoria Clark (The Blacklist) and Jordan Donica have been tapped to join The Gilded Age Season 3 cast for the upcoming next installment to the HBO period drama.
Rashad and Donica are set to portray the respective recurring roles of Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkland and Dr. William Kirkland. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Clark are set for the guest-starring roles of Frederick Kirkland and Joan Carlton. Listed below are the new cast members’ full character descriptions:
- Rashad’s Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkland – is a woman from a prominent family in Newport with ties dating back to the American Revolution. She has high standards and is unwilling to compromise the standards and expectations of her elite and exclusive social group – particularly when it comes to her son.
- Donica’s Dr. William Kirkland – a kind and handsome doctor from the prominent Kirkland family who isn’t as narrow-minded as the older members of his elite social circle. He was inspired to help others by becoming a doctor after visiting Arthur Scott’s (John Douglas Thompson) pharmacy as a boy.
- Mitchell’s Frederick Kirkland – is the patriarch of the Kirkland family and husband to Eilzabeth Kirkland. He is the pastor of a prominent Black church and a leader in the Newport community.
- Clark’s Joan Carlton – a kind and genial woman from the old money side of New York high society. Sincere and supportive of her son, she is surprised to find herself in a complicated and insulting situation.
Who are The Gilded Age Season 3 cast?
The Gilded Age is created and executive produced by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sonja Warfield. Season 3 will feature returning stars Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Ben Ahlers, Michael Cerveris, Kelley Curran, Taissa Farmiga, Jack Gilpin, and more. It is executive produced by Warfield, Gareth Neame, David Crockett, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, and Micheal Engler, with the latter two also serving as directors. It is a co-production between HBO and Universal Television.
“The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic and social change, when huge fortunes were made and lost overnight,” reads the Season 3 logline. “With the old guard officially deposed, New York society finds itself turned upside down, and all must get their house in order. But even those at the helm of this new era may find that change comes at a cost.”
