Paramount+ has officially announced the Lioness Season 2 renewal for Taylor Sheridan’s spy thriller drama. This comes after several months since the Zoe Saldaña-led series had wrapped up its 8-episode first season run, which became the streamer’s most-watched global series premiere in its first 24 hours.
“Our Paramount+ audience resoundingly has joined forces in support of Lioness’ gripping, global story and the powerhouse performances from Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, and Nicole Kidman,” Paramount+ executive Jeff Grossman said in a statement (via Deadline). “We cannot wait to see more of the heart-stopping suspense and action that Taylor Sheridan and the incredibly talented team deliver in its second season.”
Who’s involved in Lioness?
Lioness was created and executive produced by Sheridan, who has also been working with Paramount+ in a number of shows, including Mayor of Kingstown, 1923, and the upcoming Landman. The series is led by Saldaña as CIA officer Joe, Nicole Kidman as Joe’s boss Kaitlyn Meade, and Laysla De Oliveira as Sergeant Cruz Manuelos, with Saldaña and Kidman also serving as executive producers. Season 1 also featured Morgan Freeman as Edwin Mullins, Jill Wagner as Bobby, Dave Annable as Neil, LaMonica Garrett as Tucker and James Jordan as Two Cups, Austin Hébert as Randy, Hannah Love Lanier as Kate, Stephanie Nur as Aaliyah, and Jonah Wharton as Tex.
“Based on a real-life CIA program, the series follows Cruz Manuelos, a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within,” reads the logline. “Saldaña will play Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing and leading her female undercover operatives.”
