Naomi Watts was set to star in an untitled Game of Thrones spin-off years ago, and now, we have our first look at what that might have looked like.
In a recent post to Instagram, hair and makeup designer Flora Moody shared a variety of images that she took during her time working on the series. Images include wigs used for Watts, costumes, and even images of Watts on set for the series.
“This is a chance to play with shape, proportion in the wig,” said Moody in her post. “To see how the makeup reads on film. To work together to find the character that portrays the director’s vision. Collaboration is KEY! This was an unaired Game of Thrones prequel that I shot 4 years ago with the wonderful Naomi Watts.”
Untitled Game of Thrones Spin-off was canceled in 2019
The series, which was known as “Bloodmoon” during its production phase, was originally set to be the first Game of Thrones series following HBO‘s hit show ended. The series was set to be during the Age of Heroes, which takes place roughly 5,000 years before the events of the television show, and was rumored to be an origin story of sorts for the Long Night, a period of time known for its extremely long winter.
A pilot episode for the show was filmed, but the series was canceled prior to the episode being edited. According to reports at the time, the pilot was not well received amongst test audiences, leading to HBO to cancel the series.
The series was set to be written by Jane Goldman, and aside from Watts, was set to star Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, and more.
