More information about the future of Rick and Morty has been revealed, with The Hollywood Reporter detailing the release date window for the next season and its anime spin-off.
According to THR’s latest report, Rick and Morty Season 8 is set to premiere sometime in 2025, pushing the show off of its annual release format that it stuck to for the past few years. The reason for the one-year delay is due to last year’s Writer’s Guild strike, which delayed production on new episodes for a bit.
For those looking to catch up, though, Rick and Morty’s Season 7 is now available on Max, making the entirety of the series available to stream.
Rick and Morty: The Anime gets new footage
Alongside the Season 8 news, Adult Swim also released a very brief look at the upcoming anime spin-off of Rick and Morty, titled Rick and Morty: The Anime. The new footage is just 30 seconds long, and shows off some new animations which you can see below:
Rick and Morty: The Anime will be a ten-episode anime series directed by Takashi Sano, the director of Tower of God. Sano was also behind the two extremely popular Rick and Morty anime shorts, Rick and Morty vs. Genocider, and Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil), both of which are likely big inspirations and catalysts behind the full Rick and Morty anime being developed.
Besides Sano’s two anime shorts, Adult Swim has released a variety of anime-inspired Rick and Morty shorts, including the very first one, Samurai & Shogun, in March 2020. A sequel for that was released in November 2020, with a third animated short based on the series, The Great Yokai Battle of Akihabara, airing in October 2021.
