Ahead of Doctor Who Season 14’s premiere in May 2024, it has been confirmed that Millie Gibson, who’s currently portraying the titular Time Lord’s companion Ruby Sunday, will not be returning in the fifteenth installment of the hit sci-fi series.
According to Variety, the BBC has officially enlisted Andor star Varada Sethu to replace Gibson in Doctor Who Season 15, which is currently in production in Wales. Further details about Sethu’s character are still being kept under wraps, but she is set to become the next companion to Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who. After first appearing during the recent Christmas special, Gibson’s Ruby Sunday will still appear in the upcoming Season 14.
Who’s involved in Doctor Who?
Doctor Who Season 14 hails from showrunner Russell T. Davies. Joining Gatwa and Gibson are Jonathan Groff, Indira Varma as The Duchess, Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson, Michelle Greenidge, Jinkx Monsoon, Lenny Rush as Morris, and more. It will also feature the return of series vets Yasmin Finney and Bonnie Langford, reprising their respective roles as Rose Noble and Mel Bush.
“With Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, alongside Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, they will face new monsters as they head off in the TARDIS for many out-of-this-world adventures,” reads the logline.
