Actress Ashley Park took to social media to reveal that she is currently recovering from critical septic shock, an issue that has forced her into an extended hospital stay.
In an Instagram post on Friday, Park revealed that, while on holiday in December with her Emily in Paris co-star Paul Forman, she came down with tonsillitis, which shockingly “spiraled into critical septic shock.” An extreme version of sepsis, septic shock occurs when the body improperly tries to fight an infection, essentially fighting itself and causing organs to work poorly.
“As I sit here processing and recovering from the first few weeks of 2024, the only word I can think of is grateful,” said Park in her statement. “While on holiday in December into New Years, what started as tonsillitis spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs. I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told.”
Park thanked Forman, her doctors, and family for their support
Park went on to thank Forman for being by her side throughout the ordeal, and detailed his help as she went through ambulance rides, “three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections,” and more.
“I love you Paul. More than I can ever say,” Park wrote. “And I’m deeply grateful to every doctor and ICU nurse who worked tirelessly and especially the [Joali Being Beach Resort] team for responding immediately and staying with me to provide language translations and vital support. Infinite thanks to my personal team of heroes at home who were on calls with insurance, Paul, my parents, and doctors at all hours (you know who you are).”
In response to her statement, several of her co-stars and fellow actors have voiced their support for the actress, including Emily in Paris star Lily Collins.
Park is best known for her portrayal of Mindy Chen in the Netflix comedy series Emily in Paris, and has also as had starring roles in Broadway, where she played Gretchen Wieners in the Mean Girls musical. She also appeared in the 2023 film Joy Ride as well as on the hit Netflix series Beef.
