Michelle Williams will star in and produce Dying For Sex, a new limited series for FX that’s based on the hit Wondery podcast.
The series will be written by Liz Meriwether (The Dropout) and Kim Rosenstock (Only Murders In the Building), and will be directed by Leslye Headland (Acolyte). Meriwether and Rosenstock will serve as showrunners for the series.
According to Deadline’s report on the show, the project had been in the works since early 2023, but both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes had paused any action on it.
What is Dying For Sex about?
Dying For Sex will follow the story of a woman (Williams) who is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and leaves her husband of 15 years in an effort to explore her sexuality. The series is based on a Wondery podcast of the same name, which came from podcast host Nikki Boyer and is based on the true story of one of her best friends.
“When Molly’s diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, she decides to do something bold: she leaves her unhappy marriage and embarks on a series of sexual adventures to help her feel alive,” reads the official synopsis of the podcast. “She shares the funniest and most touching details with her closest friend, host Nikki Boyer. As they peel back the layers, we learn that Molly isn’t just grappling with breast cancer: she’s also dealing with some trauma from her past. Along the journey, the friends explore bigger themes that affect us all — like healing, forgiveness and what do we do with the time we have left.”
