Following the success of Gen V, The Boys producer Pavun Shetty has discussed future plans for the franchise’s possible spin-offs.
The Boys debuted to critical acclaim and has since become one of Prime Video’s most-watched television shows to date. As a result, the show spawned two spin-offs, The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V, both of which have received positive responses from audiences and critics alike.
Of course, fans are hoping for a much bigger and expanded The Boys universe given the success of its most recent spin-off. However, according to Shetty, creating more spin-offs is not a priority at the moment unless it’s necessary.
In an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, the show’s producer discusses future spin-off plans, stating that delivering quality stories is their top priority.
“We’re lucky that fans love the show so much and there’s real anticipation for Gen V, and there’s a lot of characters to build upon. There’s a lot of different areas from the books across time periods that we could really capitalize on. But, I think the most important thing for us there is that we are really diligent and thoughtful about what we do next,” said Shetty.
Although the franchise has maintained a high level of viewer interest since its debut in 2019, Shetty recognizes that viewers prefer a compelling storyline that could fit well into the show’s narrative.
“We’d love to have multiple shows, but I think audiences are really savvy and sophisticated, and I think they understand when there’s a reason a show is coming out for the proper reasons, there’s a real story to tell, and it feels of the same world, but different,” he continued. “I think they can sniff out when it’s just a show for a show’s sake, and so we are really thinking about what the next show could be and how it can be thoughtful and fit into the universe and feel like it’s a puzzle piece that fits in with everything else, but is not just a show for show’s sake.”
The Boys Expands Its World With Gen V
Based on the comic book series of the same name, The Boys centers on a fictional universe wherein individuals with otherworldly abilities are considered heroes by the public. Unfortunately, some of them don’t use their powers for the greater good.
The Boys Presents: Diabolical, on the other hand, is an animated anthology series chronicling stand-alone stories within the world of The Boys.
Gen V, which premiered earlier this year, “is set in the diabolical world of The Boys,” focusing on Godolkin University students where they train to become the next generation of superheroes.
