The head writer of X-Men ’97, Beau DeMayo, has confirmed the identity of the animated sequel series’ primary villain.
The Direct has reported that at the X-Men: 60 Uncanny Years Live Virtual Event, DeMayo confirmed that X-Men ’97‘s lead villain would be Nathaniel Essex/Mister Sinister, who will once again be voiced by X-Men: The Animated Series actor Christopher Britton.
“A very, very, very, very favorite character of mine and many others, Mr. Sinister, will rear his ugly head from the past with a pretty foolproof plan to destroy the X-Men once and for all,” DeMayo teased.
Sinister is a recurring villain of the X-Men, frequently antagonizing them in the comics and various television shows. The character was even teased at the end of 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
X-Men ’97 is being written by DeMayo, who also wrote The Witcher‘s animated spin-off Nightmare of the Wolf for Netflix. The new series will retain the original theme music from the iconic X-Men animated series of the past. Alongside new information from the series, DeMayo has confirmed that a second season is already in development, although little information about that has been revealed or discussed.
