Following the recent casting of Melanie Lynskey as Betty Gore, Variety brings word that Emmy nominee Pablo Schreiber has officially signed on to star opposite Jessica Biel in Hulu’s forthcoming true-crime drama Candy, centering around the real-life Texas axe killer Candy Montgomery. Schreiber is set to portray the role of Betty’s husband named Alan Gore, who is a Silicon Prairie engineer.
The Wire vet is best known for his roles in TV shows such as Orange is the New Black, American Gods, and Defending Jacob, with the first one earning him his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor. He is also set to lead Paramount+’s upcoming live-action Halo series, based on the popular video game series of the same name.

Candy will be based on the real-life story of the titular infamous ax killer and her victim Betty Gore. Set in 1980, Texas, Candy Montgomery (Biel) seemingly had a great life – a loving husband that had a good job, a daughter, a son, a house in the suburbs – so it’s puzzling why she killed her church friend with an ax.
The series will be written by Robin Veith, with Michael Uppendahl to helm the pilot. It will be executive produced by Biel and Michelle Purple through their Iron Ocean banner along with Uppendahl, Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, and Lindsey McManus.
