According to Variety, HBO Max has officially given a pilot order to the potential series adaptation of The Dead Boy Detectives, based on the DC characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The supernatural project hails from Doom Patrol creator Jeremy Carver, and The Flight Attendant showrunner Steve Yockey, who is also attached to write the pilot. Production is scheduled to begin in November.
Should the project indeed secure a series order, this would be the latest series adaptation based on Gaiman’s works which include Netflix’s Lucifer, Starz’s American Gods, Amazon’s Good Omens, and the upcoming The Sandman series for Netflix.

The Dead Boy Detectives is being developed as an hour-long series that will center around the two ghost children named Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, who refuse to enter the afterlife in order to stay on earth to investigate supernatural crimes. They first appeared in Gaiman’s The Sandman comics in 1991.

The DC characters are actually set to make their live-action debuts in the upcoming third season of Doom Patrol and will be portrayed by Sebastian Croft and Ty Tennant. However, the outlet notes that Croft and Tennant aren’t currently attached to the pilot.

The Dead Boy Detectives series is executive produced by Carver, Yockey, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden. It is a production by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
