According to TVLine, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Emily VanCamp has officially decided to exit her leading role in Fox’s medical drama The Resident after four years. The reason for VanCamp’s departure hasn’t been disclosed yet, but the outlet notes the she might still appear in the upcoming fifth season in “some form or fashion.” The series is slated to make its return on Tuesday, September 21.

In the series, VanCamp, who recently announced the birth of her first child with former co-star and husband Josh Bowman, portrayed the role of a nurse practitioner named Nic Nevin. The character was last seen by fans in the fourth season finale, where Nic gave birth to her and Conrad’s first child.

The Resident is a powerful medical drama focusing on the final years of a young doctor’s training that rips back the curtain to reveal the truth of what really happens, both good and bad, in hospitals across the country.
The series currently stars Matt Czuchry as Conrad Hawkins, Manish Dayal as Devon Pravesh, Bruce Greenwood as Randolph Bell, Malcolm-Jamal Warner as AJ, Glenn Morshower as Marshall Winthrop, Jane Leeves as Kitt Voss, and Jessica Lucas as Billie Sutton.
