The ensemble roster for Showtime’s series adaptation of Walter Tevis’ iconic sci-fi novel The Man Who Fell to Earth is continuing to expand as Lodge 49 alum Sonya Cassidy has signed on to join the Chiwetel Ejiofor-led cast, according to Deadline.

Based on the 1963 novel and the 1976 film adaptation of the same name, The Man Who Fell to Earth follows an alien who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and is forced to confront his own past in order to determine both his and humanity’s future.
Cassidy, who is set to play CEO of Origen Industries Edie Flood, joins a cast that already includes Ejiofor as the titular character, Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (No Time to Die), Emmy nominee Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) and BAFTA Award nominee Clarke Peters (Da 5 Bloods).

The David Bowie-led film was directed by Nicolas Roeg on a screenplay written by Paul Mayersberg and marked the late musician’s first starring role in a feature film. Though a financial disappointment upon release, the film received generally positive reviews from critics and has garnered a strong cult following in the years since for its surreal imagery and the musician’s performance and is considered an important work of sci-fi cinema and one of Roeg’s best films.
The series, which is being written and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, with the duo serving as showrunners alongside executive producer John Hlavin and the former helming multiple episodes. In addition to the trio, the series will be executive produced by Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Heather Kadin and Studiocanal’s Rola Bauer and Françoise Guyonnet.

The series is being co-produced by CBS Television Studios and TANDEM Productions, a STUDIOCANAL Company, in association with Secret Hideout and Timberman/Beverly. STUDIOCANAL owns the rights for both Walter Tevis’ book as well as the iconic Nicolas Roeg film with David Bowie.
