According to Variety, Apple TV+ has officially given a series order to a brand new anthology series titled Roar which will be based on Cecilia Ahern’s book of short stories. The project hails from Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch as part of their overall deal with the streamer. Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo, and Emmy winner Merritt Wever have signed on to star in the upcoming female-driven series. Roar will also reunite Golden Globe nominee Alison Brie, who has boarded the project, with Flahive and Mensch, who first collaborated on Netflix’s comedy-drama series GLOW.

Roar will be comprised of eight half-hour long episodes which are being described as a series of darkly comic feminist fables. The series adaptation is created by Liz Flahive, and Carly Mensch, who will also serve as showrunners and executive producers.

On top of starring, Kidman is also attached as an executive producer along with Per Saari through their Blossom Films banner. Made Up Stories’ Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, and Allie Goss are also executive producing as well as Greenlight Go’s Ahern and Capital Productions’ Theresa Park. This will also mark Kidman and Papandrea’s first non-HBO project as they both previously worked together on Big Little Lies and The Undoing.

This miniseries is the latest addition to Kidman’s growing list of upcoming projects which include: Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, Amazon’s Things I Know to Be True, and Pretty Things. Meanwhile, Erivo is set to star in Nat Geo’s upcoming third season of Genius, portraying the legendary singer Aretha Franklin.
