Nearly a year after landing the Emmy-nominated star for a miniseries focused on the iconic daredevil, The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that USA Network has scrapped the in-development Evel Knievel miniseries starring Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us) in the lead role.

Sources report that the decision to cancel the series comes in part do to a conflict in scheduling with Ventimiglia, who was planning to film the drama during hiatus from the hit NBC family drama, but with the global pandemic delaying production to August, and with showrunner Etan Frankel (Shameless) reportedly developing the Joe Exotic scripted series, the NBCUniversal cabler chose to pass on the project.
That being said, however, Universal Content Productions is currently in the process of shopping the series around to other cable and streaming platforms with the hopes of filming in summer 2021 should they land a new home, and new deals with stars Sarah Gadon (Most Dangerous Game), David Krumholtz (The Deuce) and Michael Chernus (Spider-Man: Homecoming), who were all released after production was shut down.
“USA is incredibly disappointed to have had to make this decision, as we were so excited about this project and working with Milo, Etan, and everyone involved,” the network said in a statement.

In addition to writing and showrunning, Frankel is attached to executive produce the miniseries alongside McG, Mary Viola and Steven Bello of Wonderland Sound and Vision, Alex Gartner, Charles Roven and Topher Rhys-Lawrence of Atlas Entertainment, Ventimiglia and his DiVide Pictures partner Russ Cundiff.
