The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón has signed an overdall deal with Apple to create new television projects for Apple TV+. Cuarón will continue to develop and produce new projcets with Anonymous Content and others.

Despite the deal being a television agreement, it’s clear that Apple wants to chase a certain level of awards prestige since just last year Cuarón delivered the Oscar winner Roma to Netflix. Cuarón has been nominated for ten Academy Awards since 2007, winning four including Best Achievement in Directing and Best Achievement in Cinematography for Roma & Best Achievement in Directing and Best Achievement in Film Editing for Gravity in 2013. Roma was also awarded the Best Foreign Language Film at last year’s Academy Awards, which Cuarón accepted, but the achievement is technically awarded to the film’s country of origin and not the filmmaker.
Cuarón’s previous television work comes from the short lived Believe on NBC, a fantasy drama that ran for just 13 episodes. He also worked on a handful of episodes of the Mexican TV series Hora Marcada, a project he collaborated on with fellow friendly filmmakers Emmanuel Lubezki and Guillermo del Toro.

He joins a robust lineup of talent delivering content to Apple TV+ including the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Octavia Spencer, J.J. Abrams, Jason Momoa, M. Night Shyamalan, Jon M. Chu, Steve Carell, Alfre Woodard, Kumail Nanjiani, Sara Bareilles, and much more.
Apple TV+ will launch on November 1 at a cost of $4.99 per month.
