TVLine is reporting that Jake Johnson (New Girl, No Activity, Drunk History) will star opposite lead Cobie Smulders (Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Friends from College) in ABC’s upcoming action-drama Stumptown. Johnson will replace Mark Webber in the series-regular role.

Based on the graphic novel series of the same name written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Matthew Southworth, Stumptown will follow the story of Dex Parios (Smulders), a strong, assertive, and sharp-witted army veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt, and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon. Her military intelligence skills make her a great P.I., but her unapologetic style puts her in the firing line of hardcore criminals and not quite in alliance with the police.
Johnson will star as Dex’s best friend Grey McConnell, though the pals aren’t entirely platonic. The two have unresolved feelings that run deeper. Grey — who runs a local bar — is also hiding a questionable past that comes back to bite him.
The series also stars Michael Ealy (Being Mary Jane) as Detective Miles Hoffman, Tantoo Cardinal (Blackstone, Outlander) as Sue Lynn Blackbird, Cole Sibus as Ansel Parios, and Adrian Martinex (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) as Tookie, along with Emmy Award-winning actress Camryn Manheim (The Practice, Person of Interest) as Lieutenant Cosgrove.

The series is created by Jason Richman who will also serve as an executive producer along with Ruben Fleischer (Venom), Dave Bernard, Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth, and Justin Greenwood.
Stumptown is scheduled to premiere during ABC‘s 2019-2020 season.
