Ginnifer Goodwin Joins Netflix’s Dolly Parton Anthology Series

According to Deadline, Once Upon a Time alum Ginnifer Goodwin has been tapped to star in Netflix‘s upcoming 8-episode anthology series Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings for its second episode titled “These Old Bones.” In addition to Goodwin, Golden Globe winner Kathleen Turner (Romancing the Stone, Peggy Sue Got Married) and Kyle Bornheimer (Blades of Glory, You Again) have also been cast for the episode. The series will make its debut in 2019.

Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings are inspired by the veteran singer-songwriter’s most iconic songs. Each episode will feature a different standalone story with a whole different cast. Parton is expected to appear in some of the stories and will begin each of the episode with an introduction by talking or singing about the meaning behind each song.

The second episode will be set in the 1940s, where it will follow the story of a determined D.C. lawyer who returns to her small Smoky Mountain hometown to prove herself professionally when a mysterious old mountain woman, who locals believe to be a fortune teller, threatens a lumber company’s business. What results is a test of faith along with shocking secrets from the past.

Goodwin will play the role of Genevieve while Turner and Bornheimer are set to play the roles of Ms. Mary Shaw a.k.a Old Bones and Landon respectively. These Old Bones will be directed by Joe Lazarov with Jim Strain to serve as the episode’s writer.

Previously, it was also announced that Julianne Hough has been cast to star in the show’s first episode titled “Jolene” as the titular character. Hough will be joined by Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Dallas Roberts and Parton.

Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings is executive produce by Parton and Sam Haskell along with Patrick Sean Smith to also serve as showrunner. The series is being produced by Magnolia Hill Productions and Sandollar Productions in association with Warner Bros Television.
