In the previous episode of HBO’s Insecure, Issa and her friends went to a music festival and ran into Lawrence. In this week’s episode, Issa began organizing a block party in Inglewood and attended Tiffany’s baby shower.
“People Are Gonna Wanna Drink”
Issa went to Inglewood’s City Hall to obtain permits for a block party she would be planning. She would have her own business that she was considering calling Musiqal, Inc. The woman at City Hall suggested she stop, since they usually didn’t work out or weren’t done well in their neighborhood. That was the reason Issa decided to plan the block party in the first place. However, the amount of forms she had to fill out and permits she had to obtain on her own seemed to be a roadblock for her.
Things seemed to be going well with Nathan. He told Issa he really liked her, which she said back. Nathan also seemed supportive of her block party plans. But when a representative from Lyft called Issa about an open investigation into the assault that happened in her car, she texted him about it. Issa stopped hearing from him, and the rep from Lyft called her to say the investigation had been closed since they had gotten a statement from Nathan.
The Calls
We caught up with what Lawrence has been up to, which was mostly sleeping around with women. A doctor told him he had chlamydia, so he called up all the women he’d slept with so they could get checked out. His best friend Chad had been left at the altar after he cheated on his fiancée at the bachelor party with two strippers. At Tiffany’s baby shower, he and Issa spoke about her block party plans. Lawrence seemed impressed that she quit her job. He agreed to put her in touch with someone who could help her.
The Crazy Crew
Tiffany’s friend, Blair, had planned the baby shower. Molly and Issa were hurt they hadn’t been asked to help. Tiffany pointed out that no one had offered to throw it for her until Blair. However, Kelli pointed out that she had offered. Tiffany admitted that because Blair was a mother, she thought she would’ve been the better choice. Kelli, who was closest with Tiffany, was hurt and ended up leaving the baby shower early.
Orthodox Black
Nathan’s friend Andrew still had Molly’s jacket. Molly was avoiding him because of how she acted at the music festival. When he brought it to her, he asked Molly out. Molly told him she was busy. When she discussed it with Issa and Kelli, Molly admitted that because she knew she wanted to marry a black man, she felt going out with him would be a waste of time since he was Asian. But Tiffany let slip to her that Dro and Candice were having a baby, which made her feel like she had fallen behind in her plans. She texted Andrew about going out with him.
