Star Wars Explained: Why Does the Third Sister Hate Obi-Wan Kenobi?

The fifth and penultimate installment in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is finally out. The titular character had to reinvent himself throughout the story, unveiling new sides of his personality. It wasn’t easy for Kenobi to escape from the Inquisitorius and Darth Vader, but the Jedi Master has almost succeeded in saving Leia Organa. Before the series grand finale, Kenobi and Reva (Moses Ingram), a.k.a. the Third Sister, had a long-awaited chat where she revealed the reason for her hate towards him.

ComingSoon spoiler alert

The Third Sister Was a Jedi Youngling

The reason why the Third Sister hates Obi-Wan Kenobi so much is because she was a Jedi initiate when Order 66 happened. On that infamous day, Reva was training with her fellow Jedi younglings in the Jedi Temple of Coruscant. Together with his clone legion, Anakin Skywalker walked into the temple and killed all its inhabitants. Or so it seemed since someone did survive the horror of the Great Jedi Purge.

Initially, Reva thought Skywalker came to save them from the clones, but that wasn’t the case. The young Jedi-sensitive attempted to save her friends, but she couldn’t match the Dark Side’s power. To save herself, she hid with the bodies, playing dead. The decoy worked, and Reva lived to become the Third Sister. During her confrontation with Kenobi, she blamed the Jedi Master that he didn’t do enough to prevent Skywalker from executing what she considered her family. After listening to her story, Kenobi convinced Reva to turn on Vader and obtain her revenge.

What Happened When Reva Faced Darth Vader?

Shortly after talking with Kenobi, The Third Sister attempted — and failed — to kill Darth Vader. The attempt was quickly stopped by the Sith Lord, who overpowered Reva. In the subsequent lightsaber battle, the Third Sister got stabbed before Vader told her that he knew who she was before joining the Inquisitorius. To everyone’s surprise, the original Grand Inquisitor returned to action, revealing that he wasn’t dead after Reva’s stabbing in “Part II.” Ultimately, the Third Sister is left on the brink of death as Vader and the Grand Inquisitor walked away.

Does the Third Sister Know about Luke Skywalker?

Apparently, she does. During the episode, Kenobi received a message from Bail Prestor Organa asking about the whereabouts of the Jedi Master and mentioning Luke’s location. During the clashes with the Empire, Kenobi lost the transmitter, which Reva promptly retrieved. The series finale might feature the Third Sister’s trip to Tatooine, where she might pay another visit to Owen Lars and his family.
