In the previous episode of Game of Thrones, Ned Stark agreed to become the new Hand of the King and Bran Stark was pushed out of a window after find Jaime and Cersei Lannister engaging in an incestuous sexual encounter. Daenerys Targaryen
Dany, Drogo, Viserys and Jorah are heading east from Pentos and into the Dothraki Sea. Dany asks some of her personal handmaidens about the dragon eggs she had received, but none of her handmaidens had ever heard of dragons being alive. Later that night, Dany asks another of her handmaidens, Doreah, to help her become a better wife to Drogo. Doreah instructs her in the art of pleasure and Dany successfully uses these techniques later with Drogo.
House Stark (Winterfell)
After managing to survive his fall from the Broken Tower, Bran is left unconscious. Much to his mother, Catelyn’s relief, Bran is expected to make a full recovery, but he will likely never be able to walk again. Before they all depart, Ned, Jon, Sansa, Arya, Cersei, Jaime, and Robert visit Bran and give him their well-wishes. Also Jon gifts Arya with a new sword as he is heading to join the Night’s Watch while everyone else is going back to King’s Landing. Tyrion decides to head north with Jon as he had always wanted to see the Wall. Robb Stark, the oldest Stark son stays behind to run Winterfell while Ned is gone, he is quickly distracted by a fire in the castle. While Robb is preoccupied an assassin manages to slip into Bran’s room to finish him off, but is disposed by Bran’s direwolf, Summer. Catelyn investigated the tower that Bran fell from and finds Cersei’s hair. She decided to travel to King’s Landing to tell Ned of her findings. Meanwhile, Bran awakened from his coma.
Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister
The duo accompanied by Jon’s uncle, Benjen, head north to the Wall and Tyrion recounts different stories of wild creatures and White Walkers that could be found north of the Wall. When they arrive at the Wall both are impressed by the size of it.
House Lannister, Baratheon and Stark (The Kingsroad)
Many days after departing Winterfell, Robert calls the party to a halt at the Inn at the Crossroads. Joffrey and Sansa go on a walk around the near-by river. They find Arya and Mycah, the son of the royal butcher, practicing sword fighting. Joffrey is outraged that someone would fight with the sister of his betrothed, and begins to attack Mycah. Arya’s direwolf, Nymeria protects Mycah which causes Joffrey to flee in terror. Arya forces Nymeria to flee into the wilderness, knowing that she would be killed for her actions against Joffrey. Arya is was brought before Robert and Robert ordered a direwolf killed, so Ned killed Sansa’s direwolf, Lady instead.
