On November 6, 2020, unknown assailants fatally shot aspiring rapper King Von in a parking lot outside an Atlanta lounge. Reports suggested that the investigation was initiated after the shooting because police officers had also used their weapons. Additionally, two other people died in the shooting that began after an altercation between two groups. During the investigation, law enforcement agencies found that the rapper was a part of a gang that had been operating for a while in Atlanta.
According to The New York Times, two groups started arguing outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta. The outlet mentioned that the altercation began around 3:20 a.m. and led to gunfire. As soon as the shooting incident occurred, two police officers confronted both groups and fired at them. Citing the authorities, the publication stated that King Von and two other people were taken to the hospital in private vehicles. The authorities also revealed that the rapper died in the initial shootout that took place between the groups.
Almost a week later, a Chicago Sun-Times report claimed that King Von belonged to the O Block faction of Black Disciples. Formed in 1966, Black Disciples nabbed attention for doing illegal activities like drug selling and gambling.
Which gang was rapper King Von affiliated to?
Law enforcement sources suspect the Black Disciples of trafficking weapons and marijuana in Atlanta, reported Chicago Sun-Times. Some of the gang members have gone on to become wealthy businessmen by laundering money.
On the other hand, just a week before his death, O Block faction member King Von released his debut album, Welcome to O’Block. According to the publication, the album discussed Black Disciples and its stronghold on the southern side of Chicago.
How did King Von die?
As mentioned above, rapper King Von died in a shooting incident that happened in the parking lot of a hookah lounge in Atlanta. Authorities arrested a 22-year-old man named Timothy Leeks for the shooting and charged him with murder. However, in August 2023, Leeks’ lawyer argued for dismissing the charges against him. As a result, he never went to trial for the murder of King Von, per Complex. The outlet also reported that the rapper allegedly died in an act of “self-defense.”
