In June 2024, the court found Wade Wilson, who kept his name after the popular Marvel character Deadpool, guilty of the murders of two women in October 2019. Per reports, authorities arrested Wilson after he admitted to the killings to his father. Subsequently, the police charged him with several charges, including first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. After hearing several testimonies, the jury delivered a guilty verdict and voted in favor of the death penalty. His sentencing hearing will take place on July 23, 2024. He is presently awaiting sentencing at a prison in Florida.
According to News-Press, Wade Wilson’s father testified during the trial and revealed the details about the crime. Citing his testimony, the outlet reported that Wilson called his father and told him about the slayings. At first, he didn’t believe Wilson because he was a “good storyteller,” but he eventually came to understand the truth. He testified that Wilson confessed to strangulating one of his victims after she went to sleep. Following this, he met his second victim on the street and asked for directions. Wilson choked her and pushed her out of the car while driving. As soon as he got to know that the victim was still breathing, he ran over her repeatedly.
Apart from his father, an acquaintance of Wade Wilson also told the court that he knew about the slayings. The acquaintance told the court that Wilson showed up at his workplace and confessed to the murders. Citing his testimony, FOX4 reported, “He said he killed people and he rolled up someone in a carpet or bedding or whatever it was.” After listening to several testimonies and arguments, the jury deliberated for two hours and delivered a guilty verdict, per WBBH News.
Where is convicted killer Wade Wilson now?
According to the News-Press, Wade Wilson is currently at Lee County Jail in Fort Myers, Florida. If the judge confirms his death penalty, he will become the 277th man to be put on death row. Although the sentencing hearing will take place on July 23, Wilson’s team has filed a motion and requested a new trial for the murders. Citing the motion, another report by News-Press mentioned that the court violated Wilson’s constitutional rights and used the new law against their client. Per the new law, if eight jurors vote in favor of the death penalty, the court will consider the death penalty as the final recommendation.
As of now, the court has yet to decide on the aforementioned appeal.
