Bad Romance on ABC examines the case against Sidney and Tammy Moorer in Heather Elvis’ 2013 disappearance from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The upcoming episode titled “No Trace” will air on the network this Monday, January 29, 2024, at 10 p.m. ET. An official synopsis for the upcoming episode states, “A twisted love triangle between a husband, a wife, and a young bar hostess results in a disappearance.”
Sidney Moorer was having an affair with Elvis sometime in 2013, which ended after his wife Tammy found out about it. Then, in December, Elvis mysteriously vanished and remains missing even today. Her abandoned car was found at the Peachtree Boat Landing.
Per the New York Post, authorities linked Sidney and Tammy Moorer to the disappearance using surveillance footage and phone records. Revelations also suggested that Elvis may have been pregnant at the time of the disappearance. Police then arrested the duo in February 2014 and charged them with kidnapping and murder. They later dropped the murder charges.
The case against the Moorers resulted in two separate convictions on kidnapping charges. Both Sidney and Tammy are currently serving lengthy prison sentences.
Where are Sidney and Tammy Moorer now?
According to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Sidney and Tammy Moorer remain incarcerated in separate facilities. Sidney is now serving his sentence in the Lee Correctional Institution and Tammy remains at the Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution.
According to The Post and Courier, Sidney Moorer first stood trial in connection with his former mistress Heather Elvis’ disappearance in 2016. However, the proceedings resulted in a mistrial. A jury only found Sidney guilty of kidnapping and conspiracy to kidnap in September 2019. He received two 30-year concurrent prison sentences. In addition, he had previously received 10 years in prison for obstructing a police investigation in August 2017, per ABC News.
Meanwhile, Tammy Moorer stood trial in 2018 and faced conviction on the same charges: kidnapping and conspiracy to kidnap. Tammy had also received a similar sentence as Sidndey, two concurrent 30-year prison sentences.
CBS News reported that Heather Elvis mysteriously disappeared in the early morning hours of December 18, 2013. The following day, her car was found abandoned at South Carolina’s Peachtree boat landing. Police allegedly believe that she was murdered there despite never finding a body.
The New York Post said that authorities arrested Sidney and Tammy Moorer on February 21, 2014. CBS stated that WBTW reported that prosecutors alleged that after learning about Sidney’s affair, Tammy went to work with her husband, monitored his cell phone, and handcuffed him at night.
According to NBC and other sources, police used phone records and surveillance footage to implicate the Moorers. Tammy was allegedly harassing Elvis with calls and texts and learning about her affair with Sidney. Moreover, there were rumors that Elvis was pregnant at the time of her disappearance. Police suspected that the Moorers conspired to lure Heather to the boat landing where they abducted her.
WMBF News stated that surveillance video showed a vehicle, which appeared to be similar to the Moorers’ truck, going to and from Peachtree Landing on the night of the disappearance. Furthermore, another video also showed the Moorers cleaning out their truck and burning rags two days after Elvis disappeared.
ABC’s Bad Romance will look into Sidney and Tammy Moorer’s involvement in 20-year-old Heather Elvis’ disappearance. The all-new episode airs this January 29, 2024.
