After premiering at Sundance, the response to Lenny Abrahamson‘s Frank was pretty strong, many that saw it saying it’s one of their favorites of the year so far. One thing is for certain, it appears to be one of the strangest.
The obvious draw is going to be the fact Michael Fassbender (Prometheus) stars as the title character, a mysterious bloke that wears a giant, fake, papier mache head. Why? I don’t know, but as the leader of a band of eccentric pop musicians, the story finds Jon (Domhnall Gleeson), a wannabe musician who joins Frank and his fellow bandmate, Clara (Maggie Gyllenhaal), realizing he’s bitten off more than he can chew.
After a rocky start, Jon ingratiates himself with the band members, and they retreat to a cabin in the woods to record an album. As his influence waxes, creative tensions mount, and the band’s entire raison d’être is called into question.
Set for an August 15 release date, the first domestic trailer has premiered. Give it a watch below and let me know what you think.
