Escape Plan starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger was previously titled The Tomb. Not sure why the title change, but I’m sure a focus group had something to do with it and as we all know, those groups tend to know what they’re doing.
Today the first trailer for Escape Plan has arrived ahead of what will probably be a Stallone and Schwarzenegger Comic Con appearance that will send fans through the roof. The film doesn’t hit theaters until October 18, and I must say, I actually like the look of this.
Written by Miles Chapman (Road House 2: Last Call) and Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher), the story focuses on Ray Breslin (Stallone) a man known for his talent to breaking out of prisons. It’s a niche job I assume and he’s just been hired to break out of a new high security prison, but the tables are turned when Ray realizes this is one prison he isn’t meant to break out of.
Clearly it seems Ray’s work has ruffled some feathers and now it’s payback time. Schwarzenegger plays Church, an inmate who ultimately assists Ray in finding his way out.
Jim Caviezel, Vincent D’Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, Sam Neill, 50 Cent and Amy Ryan co-star with Mikael HÃ¥fström (1408) directing.
Yeah, it may use cliched terms like “off the grid” and “shadow world” in its trailer, but it looks inventive enough, and doesn’t appear to rely solely on breaking bones and bloodshed a la The Expendables, that it could be entertaining. Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.
